QUALITY BLACK MICRO-MESH SAND EEL TRAPS

Following continuous requests for Sand Eel traps, we have made a trap which is designed to prevent 'swim-out' and retain the Sand Eels once inside.

One again based on a compressible cylinder, the trap is made from durable knotless Black micro-mesh. It has a double cone and ring entrance, but we have reduced the final entrance ring to only 25mm (1") approximately.

This has the effect of keeping unwanted predators out of the trap; but allowing sand eels , shrimps, some prawns or smaller fish to enter and be retained by the micro-mesh.

The trap is lightweight, easily carried and set. It has a zipped in bait bag and a zipped catch release too.

Ideal for fishery use to catch immatures, and young stock.

Sand Eels - We have had success using this trap in sandy gullies, which form as the tide ebbs. We have also had good success with them fastened together (with plastic cable ties) in banks, say two over three which has the effect of blocking off deeper gullies and ensuring more Sand Eels go inside. We also caught some Whitebait and Sprats as well.

Fishery Managers Note!!! Especially good for catching the smaller American Signal Crayfish thereby reducing the number of smaller specimens capable of progressing to breeding adults. (Larger specimens can be caught in our other traps).

Sand Eel traps worked in gullies should always be well weighted down and secured. We often drive pegs or rods into the sand and secure the traps by roping up. You can also increase your catches by the use of mesh leaders which direct the fish to your traps.
